My dreams are not dreams. Dreams are a figment of your imagination taking place in a fantasy world. I do not dream, I visualize and predict my future. These things do not just happen, I make them happen. As my great friend and fellow coach always says, “there are two things you can control, your attitude and your effort.” When acted upon those two factors in a positive light, your dreams will then become the visions of your future. The way I see life is through fear. I do not display my fear in most situations but it does exist. Continue reading
If you were wondering why it has been a while since my last article, well that is because I was out in Colorado enjoying friends, family, climbing, a wedding and time away from reality. Limited use of my phone and no computer while in the mountains was just what I needed to get away from the stressors of the big projects/life events I have going on. While out in Colorado I was fortunate enough to enjoy the company of many great friends and acquaintances old and new. I was able to escape my normal climbing/training routine and go to a less than conventional wedding (Hawaiian in the mountains) with life long friends. I was also able to let my guard down and just climb anything with no agenda with the help of some friends whos lifestyle I applaud and adore. Continue reading
Looking back through my pocket journals is always helpful to keep my eyes focused on my true goals and passions. Sometimes it is very easy to get sidetracked by instant gratification. Or it is just as easy to get discouraged and loose sight of my aspirations due to the tribulations of life. Staying focused and motivated over a long period of time is not easy and that is where keeping my notebook on hand proves useful. For example lets go back to my entry on 3/1/14. Continue reading
Have you ever looked up to someone because they are Fit? Have you ever been envious of a person because of their high level of fitness or their ability to crank out pull ups in their sleep? Have you looked at a extremely muscular body and just though, wow I wish I was that in shape? I’m sure most of us can answer yes to any or all of those questions. However have you ever taken a moment to think about your health? In fact have you ever considered the difference between being fit and being healthy? A overly muscular person or a person that can run a marathon at a record setting pace isn’t necessarily a model of good human health. Continue reading
The traditional birthday challenge, a wonderful physical exhausting event (or series of events) to celebrate your new age. Age is just a number, a number which plays a vital role in what exactly I am doing every year come June 9th. This last week my number happened to roll over to 28. For the last five years I have been creating my own birthday challenges. They have ranged from one single thing (2600 mountain climbers) to a day filled with various activities including eating, socializing, climbing and everything in between. However, whatever the challenge may be it will always revolve around the age you are turning. This year was a change of pace from the norm, as my friend and fellow coach, Sam, was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to come up with and complete a birthday challenge for my 28th. For those of you that know Sam, he is a very energetic, creative and fun loving dude. Once he jumped on board and took my birthday challenge by the reins I knew I was in for some good old fashion child like fun. Continue reading
Life is full of misguided adventures and desires. There are vast amounts of things that we can pursue, achieve, explore and master. The most important thing however is what you are doing right now. If you continuously worry and look ahead to what is coming next or what you hope to achieve in the future, well then when and if that point comes you will not enjoy it thoroughly because you will then start looking ahead to the next thing. Yes, at times you need to be planning for your future and set long term goals but in order to achieve those goals you must take action now. Continue reading
It feels great to wake up to the sun and not to the nagging buzz of the alarm, pure energy. Getting on a good sleep schedule is a motivating way to start your day with the energy to move. Working out and having the energy to climb right away will set a great tone for the rest of the day. It may be the missing link to reaching higher limits and breaking through plateaus.
Feeling overwhelmed and thinking there is always something to do and no time to do it. This is a thought that pollutes the minds of many people, including my self, from day to day. These thought or ch0ices may be small and unsubstantial or large and meaningful. Whatever the case may be, you shouldn’t let these decisions interfere with your daily happiness and your greater goals in life. Instead we must ask ourselves, “what do I need to do and how can I relax and not sweat the small stuff?” We must get our priorities straight and find the courage to commit to something meaningful. Like my father always said “If you are going to start something you better not half ass it.” Be brave and fully commit to your passion without fear of missing out. Below you will find a quick exercise that will help you deal with overwhelming situations. Continue reading
Go out and experience the world from your own perspective. If you want to find your true calling in this life, then do just that, go out and FIND it. Fear is just our perception of the unknown. Love fear, it gives you something to challenge in order to discover that unknown. Self-discovery is kick ass. The only real fear is to fear not discovering the unknown. So go out, take some risks, discover the unknown, travel the world and risk living a vagabond life in order to see what life is all about. Experiences are well worth the fear and they are all part of bettering your well being.
Over the years I have compiled various pages of wisdom to help motivate my self and the individuals I coach. The paragraphs below are not directly related to one another, but they all have a similar theme. No matter what your goals, desires, or ambitions are, I am sure you will find something useful from this page and the subsequent parts to come. Enjoy.
